6 Signs You Need Water Heater Repairs

Plumber-repairing-water heater

The best way to avoid getting trapped with a failed water heater is to get out ahead of problems with prompt professional water heater repair in Vancouver, WA. Most water heaters give off warning signs before they hit major problems, so if you know what to watch for, you can act fast and get our technicians to your home to inspect the system and, if necessary, fix it.

Below are six common signs a water heater needs professional repairs.

ONE: Leaks, anywhere

The only place where you should see water dripping from a water heater is the small pressure relief valve. If you notice water dripping from anywhere else or you see it pooling around the base of the water heater, call for repairs right away! No matter how small you may think the leak is, any leak is a warning of other potentially serious problems with the unit that must be addressed.

TWO: Water temperature fluctuations

You can expect occasional drops (or rises) in water temperature from the water heater, but they shouldn’t be a regular issue. If these fluctuations become the norm for your house, have technicians look into the problem.

THREE: Kettling and other odd sounds

“Kettling” refers to a rumbling and bubbling noise coming from the tank of a water heater. Don’t worry that your water heater is about to explode—that’s highly unlikely. But these noises are signaling something is wrong, such as excess sediment in the tank or a broken dip tube. Technicians can find the source and repair it.

FOUR: Drop in hot water pressure

When you turn on the hot water taps around the house, is the water pressure much lower than the cold water pressure? This often indicates problems with the circulator pump for the water heater. If you have a tankless water heater, a drop in pressure often means hard water minerals are blocking the intake or outtake lines of the water heater.

FIVE: Decline in water temperature

If you’re getting hot water, but it’s not as hot as you need it to be, please don’t adjust the thermostat on the water heater to attempt to compensate. This could lead to a scalding danger. Instead, call us for repairs to see why the water heater isn’t working effectively.

SIX: Drop in hot water capacity

Your water heater usually takes care of everyone’s shower needs each morning. But if this starts to change and people are going without hot showers, it’s a warning that for some reason the water heater’s capacity is in decline. For an older water heater, this is often the sign that it needs to be replaced. Experts can tell you if repairs or a replacement is the best choice.
